How to Redact Aadhaar, PAN and Phone Numbers from a PDF

Before you send an ID or statement to anyone, hide the numbers they do not need. A black rectangle drawn over text is not enough: the text underneath can still be copied. Real redaction removes it.

Why a black box is not enough

If you only cover text with a shape, anyone can select and copy it, or remove the shape. Redaction deletes the text itself.

Step by step

Open Redact (black out) text and choose your PDF. Turn on the patterns you want, such as Aadhaar, PAN or phone numbers, or type words to search for. Review what was found, then download the redacted PDF.

Scanned documents

A scan is a picture, so there is no text to find. Run Recognize text (OCR) first, then redact.

Check before sharing

Open the result, try to select the hidden text, and search for the number. It should not be found.
